Acupuncture

acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used for over 5,000 years to treat pain and disease processes and was recently approved by the FDA as an effective treatment for many conditions. This method of treatment is also used to correct bio-energetic imbalances responsible for most pain and disease processes. A virtually painless procedure of placing hair-thin needles into strategic body points. Inserting needles at these points stimulates various sensory receptors that, in turn, stimulate nerves that transmit impulses to the brain.

The brain then releases the body's natural pain killing hormones (neurotransmitters and endorphins). It is estimated that endorphins are 200 times more potent than morphine. Endorphins also play a big part in the functioning of the hormonal system. This is why acupuncture works well for back pain, arthritis, and PMS.

The substances released as a result of acupuncture not only relax the whole body, but also regulate serotonin in the brain which plays a role in the human and animal disposition. This is why depression is often treated with acupuncture.

Some of the physiological effects observed throughout the body include increased circulation, decreased inflammation, relief from pain, relief of muscle spasms, and increased T-cell count which stimulates the immune system.

Acupuncture can also be performed without needles by using specialized electronic instruments. With or without needles, this is an excellent way of controlling acute and chronic pain syndromes and for autoimmune disorders (e.g. allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.).

Dr. Anderson Asks some important questions of interest to Overland Park residents - Chiropractor Overland Park Dr. Anderson Asks...

How come medical doctors don't recommend chiropractic?
That's changing. Years of prejudice and bias are giving way to research showing the benefits of chiropractic care. As more and more Overland Park folks seek alternatives to drugs and surgery, more and more medical practitioners are referring their patients to chiropractors.
What are the two things drugs do?
Drugs can either speed up (laxatives, amphetamines, caffeine) a bodily process, or slow down (stomach antacids, sleep aids, antihistamines, muscle relaxers) a bodily process. Chiropractic care can produce the same results, but relies on the intelligence of the body. Chiropractors trust your body. Do you?
